Frequently Asked Questions

About Lessons

  • Not at all! I work with complete beginners as well as advanced students who want to refine their skills. Many of my students start with no prior knowledge of French. I make sure beginners feel comfortable and confident right from the start. Lessons are always adapted to your level.

  • I teach all ages — from preschool children to adults. Each lesson is tailored to the learner’s age and goals.

  • Most of my lessons are one-on-one. I prefer this method as no two students’ needs and levels are identical — nor does a one size fits all style work well. It’s all about customization. In exceptional circumstances, I would consider group lessons.

  • Family learning can be fun and motivating. I would try to adjust the lesson plan so everyone benefits.

About Process & Format

  • Online lessons are usually held over Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. I share my screen, use interactive tools, and provide resources so you can keep learning between sessions.

  • Yes, I do offer in-person lessons within roughly a 5-kilometer radius of our home in midtown Toronto. Please contact me for more details.

  • No need to buy anything in advance. I use a variety of resources — worksheets, games, online materials, and authentic French content. Once we put together a plan for you and better understand goals and your current level, I will recommend different textbooks and workbooks for each student which we will use as we work together (all available by ordering online directly from suppliers or bookstores).

  • Before starting, I get to know your goals, level, and learning style. Then I create a personalized plan — whether that means using games for kids, conversation practice for adults, or structured grammar help for students. This is a fluid process that will be revisited and changed as required.

  • Yes, but only if you’d like! I provide optional homework, practice exercises, and recommendations to help you progress faster. The most important thing between lessons is to read and to practice as much as possible. There are also great tools online which can help, especially if there are no other French speakers in your family or circle of friends with whom to practice.

About Scheduling

  • I find that everyone does best with 1-hour lessons. We can adjust the length depending on your needs. There are weeks where lessons could be longer - if the need arises due to quizzes, tests, assignments, projects or presentations at school. Again, flexibility is the key.

  • I try to book each student for the same time each week, for ease of scheduling for all. Some students elect two lessons per week and even more for short periods of time in special cases (travel, exams, falling behind at school, etc.). Again, we all have unexpected things that happen in our lives. All efforts will be made to find another time on a given week if required.

  • Life happens! I just ask that you let me know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule.

  • Yes! I offer discounted rates for additional family members or students who need to take more than one lesson per week.

About Goals & Outcomes

  • Yes — I often help students with their French coursework, test preparation, and school projects.

  • Yes, I can prepare students for official exams. Lessons will focus on the skills and strategies needed for success.

  • Definitely! If your goal is to feel comfortable speaking in real-life situations, we’ll focus on conversational French and cultural tips.
